Curated Mementos

In early March, as I waited for the season to change, I found myself struggling to gather courage to step into the next chapter of my life. I was feeling fragile mix of anxiety and excitement. That was the say this cherry blossom caught my eye.

Spring is always a season for beginnings, but it is so easy to get caught up anticipating everything that could go wrong. By the time we finish overthinking, we realize we have let the winter linger too long.

Life is short, and spring is fleeting. These bright blossoms served as a reminder for me, and perhaps for all of us: If you don’t start now, tomorrow never comes.

You know that surreal feeling when you see your reflection in the water?

It was a strange contrast back in August. At the base of Whistler Mountain, we were hot from summer heat. But by the time we reached the summit, the altitude was so high we had to put on clothes. I have always viewed mountains as a metaphor for life: they are towering, and the journey to the top is full of challenges. Yet, when you reach the summit, something unlocks inside of you.

Looking into that beautiful aqua-green lake, seeing the reflection of myself alongside the vast mountain range, I realized how many different seasons of life I already walked through. This hike fave me a perspective.

Life can be as grueling and challenging as a steep climb, but there is an undeniable beauty in tacking those hardships and learning from them along the way.

I was sitting by the window, letting my mind wander. Lately, I’ve been realizing that packed schedule isn’t the same thing as a fulfilling life. We get so caught up in the noise of day-to-day that we forget the value of quiet solitude to engage our five senses and just listen.

As if on cue, a hummingbird appeared. It landed on a blossom, holding steady even as a wind brushed against the branch. He just stayed there for a moment, looking around and taking in his surroundings.

In a world where our screens constantly demand our attention, we easily lose touch with the present. But this tiny bird became a reminder of what it means to live completely in the moment. It is beautiful how the smallest creatures can teach life’s biggest lessons.

On a July afternoon, I learned that blue hydrangeas symbolize gratitude and understanding. Looking at this bloom, those two sentiments felt entirely real to me, sparking a profound appreciation for the present moment.

These flowers endure endless rain, yet they transform that rain into a vibrant, brilliant blue. The shape of this bloom was beautifully unconventional, not perfect circle, but unique. It felt like a gentle statement of self-acceptance: “This is who I am, and I am content.”

While human constantly trap themselves in comparison and judgement, the natural world simply allows everything to exist in its own distinct beauty, If nature can celebrate uniqueness so effortlessly, why do we struggle to offer that same grace to one another? The hydrangea reminds me that true understanding and gratitude aren’t just feelings; they are everyday practices we need to build into the way we live and treat those around us.

It was a chilly evening in February. On that particular day, the sky was a striking mix of pink and orange, making the clouds look almost three-dimensional as they caught the colorful light. That beautiful gradation of color reflected perfectly on the water, turning the lake into a living painting. Scattered across the water, a flock of ducks was enjoying the view and taking an evening bath in the stillness. It was a truly picturesque view.

I wasn’t very happy that day. I was constantly seeking validation for my life decisions that came from comparing myself to others. Life isn’t perfect, and chasing external validation rarely provides the answers or the stress relief we are looking for.

Walking around the lake, I reminded myself that we cannot measure who we are or how we are doing using someone else’s ruler. We each have our own individual measurements for success. The most meaningful things in life take time to grow; they don’t appear as instant, quick results. Just as the sky holds its own unique colors every evening, every single person is meant to be different.

The version of me standing in front of that lake was still struggling with confidence and mindfulness, trapped in comparison. But the truth is, we are all doing enough just by navigating this life and handling its hardships, while remembering to celebrate each small accomplishment along the way.

It was a hot day in summer. We lay down on the vibrant green grass, surrounded by coffee and lunch.

As I leaned back and looked up at the sky, my eyes found a magnificent tree standing tall above us. It had one of the strongest trunks I had ever seen; its textured bark proudly showing its age, while its lush green leaves acted like a natural umbrella, protecting us from the intense sun.

Looking at it, I began to think about how much that tree had endured., years of winds and rains. Yet, it still stands steady, radiating confidence through its quiet, powerful presence. We all need moments to find our own strength, and for me, looking at this single tree teaches a profound lesson: Hang in there. You will be amazed at who you become after weathering all the different seasons of life.

It was one of those slightly chilly days where you can feel the end of summer, the air growing crisp and misty right where the island meets the vast, open sea. As I listened to the water lapping against the shore and washing over the smooth gray pebbles, the sound soothed my mind.

As we began walking along the shoreline, we came across a large, strong piece of driftwood resting on the beach, looking out at the endless horizon. Perched along its curved trunk were towers of stacked stones, cairns that previous visitors had balanced on top of one another.

Are you the type of person who adds a rock to the stack, or do you leave it untouched? Personally, I am the latter. I found myself wondering about the people who had visited this spot before me and what thoughts they carried in that exact moment. Just appreciating their creation made me feel a connection to them.

Landscapes are so deeply tied to memory. Even if you visit the exact same beach twice, the view changes entirely depending on the human stories left behind. When a quiet nature view includes a piece of the human spirit, it becomes truly beautiful.

I have always found a deep sense of gratitude for color in my life. On a lovely May day, with summer still a couple of months away, I found myself standing before a breathtaking field of tulips.

The scene offered a beautiful contrast. The tulips themselves were spread out like an endless, colorful tapestry, each wearing its own vibrant coat. They were still, yet they danced subtly whenever a breeze passed through, looking for all the world like they were smiling. Around them, the field was alive with the joyful energy of people taking photos and walking their dogs, completely captivated by the view.

It made me reflect on how effortlessly nature feeds our souls. Looking closer, I realized the tulips weren’t acting alone; a stately tree and the distant, colorful mountains were all playing their parts to perfect the frame. No matter how chaotic or fast-paced our human lives become, nature remains a steady, beautiful constant.
